The consultation itself
History first, then examination. For episodes such as seizures or unusual movements, the sequence of what happened matters more than the label, so expect questions about what came immediately before, during and after.
Leave with a plan
What was found, what it means, whether any test is genuinely needed and why, what to watch for at home, and when to come back. Tests are ordered to answer a specific question, not as a routine panel.
What to bring
Bring what you have. Nothing on this list is mandatory, and a consultation is not wasted if a report is missing, but each item saves repeating work that has already been done.
Immunisation record
The vaccination card or booklet, so the schedule can be checked and continued without gaps.
Earlier prescriptions and discharge summaries
Anything from previous doctors or hospital stays, so the assessment builds on what has been done instead of repeating it.
Previous reports
Blood tests, EEG, MRI or CT reports, hearing and vision assessments. Bring the report and the films or CD if you have them.
A phone video of any episode
For seizures, unusual movements or staring spells, a video is often the single most useful thing a parent can bring. Record it only when it is safe to do so.
School reports, for learning or behaviour concerns
Teacher feedback and report cards give a picture of the child outside the consultation room.
Your own list of questions
Parents often remember the fourth question only on the way home. Writing them down beforehand helps.

Reports, prescriptions and follow-up
Keep every prescription and report together in one folder and bring the whole folder to each visit. For children on long-term medication, seizure medication in particular, follow-up is not a formality: doses need revisiting as a child grows, and effects on attention, mood, sleep and school performance are reviewed at every visit.
If a test is arranged, bring the result back instead of acting on it alone. A report means different things depending on the child’s history, so it is worth reading the two together.
When not to wait for an appointment
A seizure lasting more than five minutes, difficulty breathing, unresponsiveness, a stiff neck with fever, or a head injury with vomiting or drowsiness are emergencies. Go to your nearest emergency department rather than waiting for a clinic slot.

Which vaccination schedule does the clinic follow?
The clinic follows the immunisation schedule published by the Indian Academy of Pediatrics. Missed doses can usually be caught up without restarting the schedule, so bring whatever record you have even if it is incomplete.
